Texas Tanker Foiling

Over the past few years, my boyfriend and I have been heading to the Texas Coast to foil whenever there's any kind of swell. Our latest favorite mission is the Houston Ship Channel, where we chase down waves created by tanker & container ships. Riding these waves can last up to 20-30 minutes, allowing us to rack up some serious mileage on the jet ski as we chase these huge ships. We have been going down with some of our closest friends, new friends and of course a whole bunch of gear. You can only predict so much at the ship channel, so each time we go it is a new experience. But some of these waves can be perfect for foiling if you know where to go, if the conditions are just right and if the channel is busy.

Chasing down tanker waves involves a lot of factors. Sometimes, a ship may not create a wave at all, depending on the tide, weather, speed, size, and direction of the vessels. The thrill from finding a wave seemingly out of nowhere is unmatched.  A ship might pass, and you could wait ten minutes without any sign of a wave. Then, out of the distance, you might spot something and have to race on the jet ski to catch the wave just in time.

A few weeks ago, on a random Tuesday, Wilson (my boyfriend) and I had one of my favorite days of the year. With little to no warning he picked me up from work with the jet-ski behind his truck ready to drive down to Houston. The only thing I had with me was one of my string bikinis from my Spring Fling ‘24 collection. I tied my Weezkini as tight as possible and had the best time riding waves for miles & ripping on the jet-ski. Being out there, with no one else around, is an incredible feeling. There’s nothing quite like the wind in your hair while riding a wave for miles in a string bikini. Talk about freedom! 

These experiences shape my vision, inspiration, style, and the community I want to build with Weezkini. I’m excited to share with the Weezkini community what’s coming next spring: new designs made for the activities I love. I truly love sharing these moments with my amazing friends and can’t wait to introduce new styles that enhance our adventures. Stay tuned, babes—we’re just getting started!
